More airport runway improvements

26 February 2016

AlburyCity is investing a further $2M to improve one of its most important assets, the Albury Airport.

Council has awarded Excell Gray Bruni the contract to seal the runway shoulders, and reconstruct one of the general aviation taxiways and the south east general aviation apron.

A significant upgrade to the runway was completed in 2014, but did not include sealing the gravel shoulders.

The latest works will significantly reduce erosion from rain and wind and also from large aircraft when taking off from Albury.

Works will commence in late March and will take place during day and night hours and will take around 12 weeks to complete.

To minimise the impact on airport operations, the works will be broken into three stages. The first stage will be to seal the shoulders and will involve closing the aerodrome between 9.00pm and 5.00am.

Stage two will mean closing taxiway Delta for four weeks and Stage three will involve the partial closure of the south-east apron.

All stakeholders have been briefed on the works and likely impacts.
