Proposal of major development at Albury Airport - Albury Airport Western Precinct.

  • Airport occupies an area of approximately 106.9 h² and services a range of aviation industries such as aircraft maintenance and Regular Public Transport. The airport also provides support to both NSW and VIC aerial firefighting and aeromedical capabilities, as well as the Department of Defence. The airport is one of the key gateways to the region and is a vital component for the strategic growth of this dynamic regional hub.
  • The proposed site for the Western Precinct as nominated in the Albury Airport Masterplan 2018 is approximately 16.5ha, occupying vacant land South of the runway, between the Western fence line and Taxiway Bravo, which services the existing General Aviation aprons and privately leased land and hangars. The future Western Precinct is expected to accommodate:
    • Emergency services operations (i.e. aerial firefighting, aeromedical);
    • Freight and related warehousing;
    • Future and emerging aviation technologies;
    • General Aviation hangars (private or business);
    • Helipads;
    • Aviation related business (i.e. aviation maintenance, aircraft painting); and
    • Apron areas for parking of large charter and military aircraft.
  • Key objectives of Feasibility Study and Concept Design are:
    • Achieves the intent of the development of the Western Precinct as per the Albury Airport Master Plan 2018, including recommendations;
    • Concept design for the Western Precinct supported by both Federal and State regulatory bodies
    • Proposed development of the Western Precinct adopts a staged approach for development;
    • Western Precinct enables Albury Airport to support a national approach to resilience, response and disaster recovery.

  • What happens next? Ontoit Global are engaging a wide range of stakeholders to seek feedback on the future of the Western Precinct development which will assist in the feasibility study and concept design. It is expected this activity is to conclude in mid 2023 with a concept design presented for community consultation. Detailed design is expected to be completed by early 2024 with works commencing in 2025.
