Adelaide to Albury flights take off for Winter
Residents of Albury-Wodonga can today take advantage of a new capital city connection as Qantas launches flights from Adelaide.
The national carrier’s inaugural service from South Australia lands in Albury this afternoon, with celebrations at the airport to welcome the first customers.
Qantas will operate two weekly return flights with its 50-seat Q300 aircraft until 25 September 2022.
The new service is the only direct connection between South Australia and Albury, saving travellers more than three hours on a return journey compared to alternative flight options via Sydney or Melbourne.
QantasLink CEO John Gissing said the new flights reinforced the airline’s commitment to connecting regional Australia.
“We’re continuing to see strong demand for Albury-Wodonga services and this new seasonal route means that the border city now has a direct flight to Adelaide,” said Mr Gissing.
“The new service is great news for local tourism operators, the business community and those looking for a South Australian holiday.
“For South Australians, the new route opens up a gateway to their closest snowfields, Falls Creek and Hotham, for what has been a strong early snow season and makes the Albury-Wodonga region more accessible than ever.”
AlburyCity Mayor Kylie King said the new Adelaide-Albury route is a huge win for the local economy.
“We’re so pleased to see that the demand for travel to our beautiful region has made this route possible, it’s great news for our local businesses and tourism operators. Not to mention our community will now be able to head over and experience South Australia in record time.
“We hope that continued demand could mean the route might be extended into the future,” Mayor King said.
Qantas now connects Albury with four capital cities: Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide.
Customers will enjoy the benefits of Qantas’ premium service, including complimentary food and drinks, baggage and lounge access in Adelaide before they fly out for eligible frequent flyers. Ski and snowboard equipment can be included within the checked baggage allowance.
